With the Pro Solo in Lincoln, the first major event (locally) of the year, coming up soon, I thought it might be a good chance to talk about the SCCA Contingency Program. As some of you may or may not be aware contingencies are a chance to win awards by placing in certain positions in your class (1st is usually a good one) at National, Divisional and Pro Solo events. Contingencies usually require a participant to be using the company’s product and having required decal(s) placed on the car during the competition.
Contingencies are available from a wide variety of sources, including car manufacturers (Volkswagen, Mazdaspeed, Honda, Toyota), tire manufacturers (Kumho, Bridgestone, Toyo, Hankook, Yokohama), and many other misc. manufacturers and vendors (AST USA Suspension, Hawk Performance Brakes, iRacing.com). Prizes can range from cash to products or product credit.
Here are a few things to make sure you are eligible and qualify for a contingency.
1. Complete your online SCCA contingency registration.
2. Check the SCCA Contingency page for a complete list of contingency opportunities available at the event you are attending. This list does change for time to time, so it is a good idea to check it before each eligible event.
3. Make sure you have the required decals. You can obtain these by contacting the company directly or a lot of times the decals will be available at Tech or registration at the event, but if at all possible I would not count at the decals being available at the event itself.
4. Complete all necessary paperwork and make sure it is submitted properly. Lots of time the paperwork will require a signature from an event official, most likely someone in Tech, so make sure you get all signatures before the event begins.
Remember: You must follow all contingency program requirements or you will most likely not receive your award.
