Sebastien Ogier edged out fellow countryman and namesake Sebastien Loeb for his first WRC victory at the Vodafone Rally de Portugal. Ogier started the day in 3rd and battled his way into 1st place finishing with a 21.1 second advantage over Loeb. Dani Sordo finished behind Loeb for an all Citroen podium.
Loeb maintains his place on top of the Drivers Championship points followed by Ogier and then Mikko Hirvonen. Mikko was able to steal 4th place in Portugal from Petter Solberg who hit a water barrier in the final Super Special Stage which tipped his car onto 2 wheels and gave the advantage to Mikko. Solberg finished in 5th and also sits in 5th in the Drivers Championship behind Jari-Matti Latvala, who was forced to retire from the event after crashing on stage 9. Mads Ostberg was able to score some points for Subaru, driving his Impreza to a 7th overall finish.
Ken Block returned to WRC action in Portugal after sitting out Rally New Zealand. The event got off to an exciting start with him going head to head with former Formula 1 Champion Kimi Raikkonen on an asphalt track in a Super Special Stage (video). Kimi and Block battled to a dead tie to open the event. Things turned worse for Block as he rolled his Monster Energy World Rally Team Ford Focus RS and was forced to retire when damage to his cage was found.
